Small Business Leadership Assessment

The leadership your people actually experience—not the one you intend

The strength of a small business almost always reflects the strength of its leadership. Leaders set the tone, shape the culture, and decide whether their teams feel empowered or quietly disengaged.

Yet even well-intentioned leaders fall into blind spots—micromanaging, avoiding hard conversations, choosing short-term wins over long-term trust. Left unchecked, these habits erode performance and morale long before they show up in the numbers.

That’s why I built this Small Business Leadership Assessment. It’s a candid, private self-review drawn from almost three decades of coaching CEOs and business owners.

In about fifteen minutes you’ll work through four parts:

  • Sixteen leadership behaviours, rated across four areas—engagement and feedback, accountability and transparency, cultural impact, and personal growth.
  • Seven red flags of toxic leadership—an honest yes/no check most owners never run on themselves.
  • Five reflection questions to turn the score into insight.
  • A 30-day action plan so you leave with a first step, not just a number.

You’ll finish with an overall score out of 80, a band that tells you where you stand, and a breakdown showing exactly where to focus first.

As you answer, be candid. Don’t rate the leader you intend to be six months from now—rate the one your team works for today. That’s where the real growth starts.
