Leadership Thought #437 – Why Can’t You Sleep?

The brain is a powerful and complex organ although some people refer to it as the muscle of thinking. It won’t be ignored for any extended period of time. What’s troubling you will continually resurface until you do something about it. Once you work towards resolution on whatever is bothering you, it’s interesting how that thought seems to fade into the background. Rest almost always follows progress. I have no grand illusions that I will ever be an 8 hour sleeper. I am fine with that. I’ve had some wonderful late night/early morning moments. I just want to make sure I separate the experiences that are the natural course of aging and personal biology from those that are my conscious or subconscious mind pushing me to pay attention and take action. I encourage you to do the same.

Leadership Thought #337 – Don’t Spend Time Tossing and Turning in Bed

I’ve always envied people who don’t have any problems sleeping although I believe this number is relatively small especially as you age. My sister used to joke that not sleeping well is the sign of a guilty conscience. I certainly hope not. I think it has alot to do with what’s on your mind, but also a reflection of what you eat and drink, how much exercise you get and whether or not you have conducive sleep habits. Some nights I sleep deeply while other nights I seem to wake up sporadically throughout the night and never quite drift off like I need to. It can all get a bit frustrating if you let it get to you.
