After-Action Review
When something does not go as planned—or when a difficult situation goes especially well—the most valuable question is: What should we learn from it?
The After-Action Review is a practical tool for Sales, Operations, and other affected leaders to examine a meaningful event while the facts are still fresh. Use it after a customer commitment, capacity conflict, missed delivery, successful exception, or cross-functional breakdown to compare what was expected with what actually happened and identify what contributed to the result.
The goal is not to assign blame. It is to create accountability and improve how the organization works. The worksheet helps your team identify what to repeat, what to stop, and what needs to change—including operating agreements, decision processes, customer communication, capacity information, training, and coaching. It then turns those lessons into action by assigning an owner, completion date, measures of progress, and a review date.
Use this tool within several days of a meaningful event to turn experience into better decisions, stronger coordination, and clearer execution.
